A type of lifting pump used in a shallow oil well to pump out the crude; consists of a string of tubing equipped with a check valve at each point, and mechanical means on the surface to vibrate the tubing string vertically; creates a harmonic condition that results in several hundred strokes per minute, with the strokes being a small fraction of an inch.
