hyperthyroidism [¦hī·pǝr`thī´rȯid´iz·ǝm] MEDICINE The constellation of signs and symptoms caused by excessive thyroid hormone in the blood, either from exaggerated functional activity of the thyroid gland or from excessive administration of thyroid hormone, and manifested by thyroid enlargement, emaciation, sweating, tachycardia, exophthalmos, and tremor.
