Arneth's index [`är´nets ´in´deks] HISTOLOGY A system for dividing peripheral blood granulocytes into five classes according to the number of nuclear lobes, the least mature cells being tabulated on the left, giving rise to the terms ``shift to left'' and ``shift to right'' as an indication of granulocytic immaturity or hypermaturity respectively.
