C₆H₁₂O₆⋅H₂O A dextrorotatory monosaccharide obtained as a white, crystalline, odorless, sweet powder, which is soluble in about one part of water; an important intermediate in carbohydrate metabolism; used for nutritional purposes, for the temporary increase of blood volume, and as a diuretic. Also known as corn sugar; grape sugar.
