A camera tube in which an optical image is projected on a semitransparent photocathode, and the resulting electron image emitted from the other side of the photocathode is focused on a separate storage target; the target is scanned on the same side by a high-velocity electron beam, neutralizing the elemental charges in sequence to produce the camera output signal at the target.
