An instrument for analyzing the spectra of microscopic objects, such as living cells, in which light passing through the sample is focused by a compound microscope system, and both this light and the light which has passed through a reference sample are dispersed by a prism spectroscope, so that the spectra of both can be viewed simultaneously.
