The plastic movement of a soft rock in the walls of a borehole or mine working that reduced the diameter of the opening. MINING ENGINEERING 1. The settling, without breaking, of the roof over a considerable area of working. Also known as creep; nip; pinch. 2. The gradual upheaval of the floor of a mine due to the weight of the overlying strata. 3.
