将液态钢水浇铸进连铸机，经冷凝、切割后直接得到铸坯的工艺。简称连铸。是炼钢和轧制之间的一道工序，连铸生产出来的钢坯是热轧厂生产各种产品的原料。连铸是20世纪钢铁工业发展的最关键技术之一，它的出现从根本上改变了一个世纪以来占统治地位的模铸-初轧工艺。连铸技术的发展，提高了炼钢生产过程的机械化、自动化水平，使得钢铁产能大幅提高，并成为钢铁行业降低生产成本、提高竞争力的主要手段。
