现代流行音乐样式的一种。通常，摇滚乐被认为是一种发源于美国、受到美国黑人音乐传统影响、以歌曲创作为主、主要依靠录音传播的现代流行音乐样式。它产生于20世纪50年代的美国，随后在西方世界广为流传，到20世纪末已经成为一种世界范围内的音乐现象，并在流行音乐(广义)领域中居主导地位，其主要特点为：旋律简单上口、便于传唱，带有强烈的节奏因素，采用经过电声放大的人声演唱和电声小乐队伴奏等。
