遗传病或性状的控制基因位于第1～22号常染色体上，只有在同源染色体上的两个等位基因同时发生突变时，即纯合子（两个等位基因突变位点相同）或复合杂合子（两个等位基因突变位点不同）才表现出性状或疾病，杂合状态下表型正常，或者仅有与疾病状态相比非常轻微的病变表现，但可以作为携带者将突变传递给后代的遗传方式。
