除单期库存系统外，更一般的情形是多期但为有限期的系统，每期有各自的参数，每期要进行决策，期与期之间具有关联和影响。例如本期决策后，在运行完本期时如有多余的货物，则在下一期是可以继续使用的，但要产生持货成本，如果本期造成了缺货，则要产生缺货惩罚成本，所缺货物在以后可以不补也可以让下一期回补。
