多声部音乐形式之一。指各具有独立意义的两个或两个以上的声部，按照对位法的原则加以结合而构成的多声部结构。它源于古希腊语，拉丁转写为polyphonia和polyphonoe，意为“多音”“多声”，早期中国译著也称之为“复音音乐”，与欧洲专业音乐中的从上古到9世纪初期教堂音乐的单音音乐相对照。其后才逐渐形成在横向思维基础上，按对位法原则结合而构成的多声部音乐，与纵向思维为基础的主调音乐相对照。除此之外，也有部分欧美音乐词典将该术语泛指相对独立各声部结合运动时的一种作曲技术和音乐风格。
