以调整国家和其他国际法主体在国际环境领域发生的，与环境资源开发、利用、保护、治理相关的社会关系的法律规范为研究对象的法律学科。是国际法的分支。与外国环境法学不同，国际环境法学着眼于对与环境、生态保护相关的国际条约、公约、惯例、原则等的研究，而不是对某一国国内环境法学的研究。
