利用水淬和油冷的优点，将加热好的奥氏体化工件，先放入一种冷却能力强的淬火介质（如水或油）中冷却至稍微高于点（奥氏体转变为马氏体的临界温度，约300℃），越过奥氏体最不稳定的温度区间后，再迅速转移到另一种冷却能力较弱的淬火介质（如油或空气）中进行冷却，使过冷奥氏体转变为马氏体的方法。又称双介质淬火法。
