指企业在真实与不损害公众利益的前提下，通过介入重大的社会活动、历史事件、体育比赛和国际博览会等，有计划地策划、组织、举办一系列活动，制造有“热点新闻”效应的事件，吸引媒体和社会公众的注意与兴趣，以达到提高社会知名度，塑造企业良好形象，最终促进产品或服务销售的目的。又称事件营销。
